Community Grants Overview

The Foundation makes a limited number of grants to social service organizations with 501(c)3 status as defined in the U.S. Internal Revenue code, and with audited financial statements.

Geographic preferences: Los Angeles County primarily. A few grants are made in Orange County.
Program areas:
  1. Programs promoting self-sufficiency among the working poor population, with a preference for those utilizing case management.
  2. Programs related to the needs of Pfaffinger Foundation’s individual clients, such as mid-career job retraining, services for seniors, and credit counseling.
Type of Grant: Specific programs, special projects, unrestricted operating support.
Size of Grant: Typically $5,000 to $20,000.
Grant Term: One year. The Foundation will consider renewal funding and is sometimes able to invest in grantees and their programs for several consecutive years, but approvals are typically made annually.
Areas not supported: Services to the homeless, substance abuse treatment, educational institutions, capital programs, and most medical and mental health programs.
