About the Foundation

Welcome.

Pfaffinger Foundation honors men and women who have devoted much of their careers to the newspaper industry. Our particular focus is on eligible employees, former employees, and retirees — and their spouses — of those newspapers and the other businesses that were part of the former Times Mirror Company.

Pfaffinger’s time is now. As the newspaper industry has gone into a steep decline in the past decade, the need for our assistance has grown. Many people who expected to finish their careers at a newspaper have found themselves with their hours reduced, or laid off, or taking early retirement. Not yet able to afford to retire, they have discovered how hard it is to make ends meet.

Pfaffinger is here to help. This website describes the kind of assistance we can provide. We offer this assistance with highly professional case managers and a commitment to respond promptly to employees and retirees facing unforeseen financial hardships.

In years when our funding will allow it, Pfaffinger also makes a limited number of community grants to charities in the Los Angeles area. This website will also help grant seekers understand our guidelines and application process.

When he established the Foundation in 1936, Mr. Pfaffinger might never have guessed that its greatest need would be eight decades into the future. Our Board and staff acknowledge our debt of gratitude to him. We affirm our commitment to continuing to serve as he wished, while addressing the very contemporary challenges our clients are facing today.
