Living independently at home

Medical Needs

Alfredo, a 97 year old, worked over two decades in classified advertising at his newspaper before he retired at age 65. He reached out to the Foundation when he and his wife needed assistance with home repairs.

When his wife died, Alfredo struggled with this loss as they were married for nearly seven decades. Alfredo began to have medical problems and difficulty walking after having a stroke. In 2021, he fell and hit his head on the ground. He was taken to the hospital where he stayed for one week until he was transferred to a rehabilitation center.

After two weeks Alfredo returned home and shared his hopes of maintaining his independence at home with his case manager who helped to create a safe and caring plan with him.

The Foundation assisted Alfred with his medical bills, prescription medications, caregiving services, and the installation of bathroom shower grab bars.
